Jalan Besar shophouse five-foot-way at night with a lit doorway

A personal blog · Singapore

The exact minute one ordinary thing turns into the next.

I am Imran. I live near Rochor and write about the small moments when a coffee shop closes, a cooker clicks, a walk goes quiet — the changeovers nobody announces but everybody recognises once they have been named.

This is not a magazine and not a brand. It is one person keeping a written record of ordinary evenings in Singapore — the kind where nothing dramatic happens except the moment something stops being what it was and becomes what comes after. I notice when the second urn goes off at the kopitiam. I notice when traffic noise gives up halfway down a canal path. I write those minutes down because they are easy to forget and hard to describe unless you slow down enough to catch them.

If you have arrived here without knowing me, start with the main article below — it is the most recent and the most difficult thing I have published. After that, the journal holds five shorter pieces from the months before, each about a different corner of Jalan Besar, Kelantan Lane and the blocks I walk through on the way home.

About Imran

I work in an office near Selegie and come home through Kelantan Lane most evenings. I am more interested in the minute things switch than in the things themselves.
