About

Imran

My name is Imran. I am thirty-four, unmarried, and I rent a flat on Crawford Lane with a view of nothing in particular except the back of another block and, on clear mornings, a slice of sky above the laundry poles. I work in procurement for a firm near Selegie Road — spreadsheets, supplier calls, the ordinary machinery of an office — and I come home most evenings through Kelantan Lane, past the hardware shops and the late-opening coffee stalls and the uncle who sells phone cables from a folding table.

I started this blog because I kept noticing the same kind of moment and had nowhere to put it. Not dramatic moments. Not the kind people photograph. The minute the rice cooker clicks from cook to warm. The minute the second urn at the kopitiam goes off. The minute a five-a-side court switches from kids to uncles without anyone announcing it. These are the changeovers that structure an ordinary day in Singapore if you pay attention, and they vanish if you do not write them down.

I am not a writer by profession and I do not pretend to be one. I have no publisher, no newsletter, no social media strategy. I do not accept sponsorships or review products. This site is hosted cheaply and maintained on Sunday afternoons when I have nothing else to do. The photographs are stock images chosen to match the neighbourhoods I describe — I am not talented enough with a camera to do them justice myself.

Jalan Besar street scene in the late afternoon

What I notice: closing hours. Sound giving up halfway through a walk. The ten seconds after a machine finishes its job. Shopkeepers who know when to stop unpacking and start packing. I am patient in the way of someone who has learned that rushing past these minutes means missing the only interesting part of the day.

If you read something here that sounds like your uncle, your neighbour, your regular coffee shop — it might be, and it might not. I change small details to protect people who did not ask to appear in a blog. The feelings are true. The addresses are real. The names are not.

Say hello if you like. I read every message myself.

Personal note

MindEdge is my personal blog. Everything published here is written by me and reflects my own experiences, opinions and memories at the time of writing. Posts are personal reflections — not professional, medical, legal, financial or fitness advice. Places and everyday moments are described from my own point of view; I do not name or speak for anyone else, and I try to write about my neighbourhood kindly and honestly. If I have got something wrong, tell me and I will fix it.
